Easy tips to keep your carpet clean
Vacuum frequently and thoroughly. Vacuuming removes soil from your carpets and furniture, which helps to keep the particles from releasing into the air. A vacuum with a high efficiency filtration bag is recommended.
Have your carpets and furniture professionally cleaned. Regular cleaning with hot water extraction will remove soil and odors.
Control the sources. Tobacco smoke gets trapped in carpet and upholstery fabric, and is a major source of indoor air pollution.
Use entrance mats. Entrance mats placed both inside and outside of doors will cut down on much of the dirt brought into your house. Oily dirt tracked onto your carpet will attract even more oily dirt, so be proactive and limit the amount of dirt that makes it to your carpet in the first place.
Treat spots as soon as possible. The longer the delay, the more likely it will become a permanent stain. Act quickly. Blot, don't rub, then follow your carpet manufacturer's recommendations on how to treat spots.
Open your windows. Grandma was right, fresh air is good for you. Houses today are built air-tight, so we don't get natural ventilation. Take advantage of nice days and air out your house every now and then. It's free and healthy!
